I was thumbing through Facebook on a break and stumbled across a post about 100 life skills we all need. I was curious to know how many I actually have. Many of these skills were awesome. Many of these skills could make me a more interesting person. Many of these skills I have no idea where to even begin to obtain. One of the top life skills listed was to know how to hang christmas lights. WOW. Thank goodness i’ve got that one nailed. When I reached the last one it hit me. Not one of these said anything about being relational. Maybe the author of that article just doesn’t believe being relational is an actual skill that can be learned, or maybe they think it’s just something we automatically do. WRONG ! Being relational and being good at it is very much a skill. So I would offer this… instead of trying to learn 100 really awesome life skills that can make you a very interesting person, how about trying to become really good at just one life skill that can absolutely change your world (and those around you). Learn to be better relationally. I started my own never ending journey of realizing how important this actually is and can be in the reality of my life around 1992. It makes me smile to think about how much this matters to me now. It also makes me smile to know that the single most important life skill a person can have is something i’m working on. How about you?
